Two Months Old!

Reagan turned two months old on the 18th.  She weighed 10lbs 5 oz. and 22 inches in length at her 2 month appointment.  Her sister was only 9lbs at two months old.  Reagan is a very good eater so far.  She's my little chunky monkey.  Rylie never developed rolls on her legs so this is our first experience with a new area to keep clean.  She is eating every 3 to 4 hours during the day.  She has had a few nights where she'll go 5 or 6 hours without having to eat, but of course, I haven't been asleep during any of these.  I'm still at a max of about four hours of consecutive sleep. When she does get up in the middle of the night to eat, it's about impossible to get her back to sleep, so that has been fun.  As soon as we lay her down, she starts stretching and swinging her arms and startles herself awake.  I don't suppose there is any chance this will change in the next two weeks in time for me to go back to work.  Other than that, she is a smiley baby.  She has really started giving us a lot of smiles and fun facial expressions.  She is starting to do more "talking" too.  I love that she sees our faces and is interacting with us a little more.

Update on Rylie's 3 year visit: She is 28lbs and 35 inches tall...yep, still a peanut.

Princess Rylie

For the third year in a row we went to the zoo on the day of Rylie's birthday to celebrate.  From the pictures below, it appears we take a picture in front of the elephants each year as well. It was another HOT day so we didn't get through the entire zoo, but we saw some of the bigger animals- apes, elephants, giraffes, and bears and had some ice cream! Rylie opened a few gifts at home from mommy and daddy and her own personal piece of turtle cake.  The big celebration was her princess party the following day.

Rylie requested a princess party for her third birthday.  We decided that since our house isn't in any condition to host guests (i.e. the basement still isn't finished and my dining room is still functioning as our storage area), the party would be held at Kinderberg park.  It's a great park in that they have an indoor shelter to keep all of the food and the patio area is covered in case of rain.  They also have a baseball diamond, swings, slides, jungle gym area, and a splash pad.  We were so thankful that the over 100 degree weather of the previous couple of days cooled down to about 85 degrees.  There was a wonderful breeze at the park to keep things a little more comfortable. It was a great party and our princess had so much fun with all of her family and friends.

4th of July

My parents came to town for the long weekend-  since the 4th of July was on Wednesday, Rylie's birthday was Friday and her party on Saturday, they took Thursday off work and spent 5 days with us.  On the night of the 3rd, I was prepping food for the parade the next day and sent Dan on an errand for me.  He came home at about 9:27pm and said there were cars lined up on County Line Rd. waiting for fire works (which would start in 3 minutes).  So we quickly hopped in the car and drove to the end of our subdivision and parked.  We were able to see both the Menomonee Falls fireworks and the Milwaukee fireworks. We have lived in this house for four years and that was the first time we had done that.  We had no idea you could see them from just down our street.

Watching fireworks in the car

The day of the 4th, it was just WAY too hot, so I have very few pictures this year. I was sweaty, sticky, uncomfortable and I just didn't care to get the camera out.  I spent almost the entire parade sitting in the car with Rylie and Reagan with the air conditioning on.  We learned that Rylie doesn't do very well in really hot weather and it was just too warm for Reagan to be out there as well.  We walked over to the park afterward for Dan to have his usual two ears of corn on the cob and a couple of beers.  I hung out under misting hose.  Then we headed over to Ted and Marcia's for a pool party, which Rylie enjoyed since she could cool off.  I had been cleared to swim since it had been six weeks since Reagan was born; however, I was not about to wear a swim suit in front of anyone yet.  So all in all, it was a miserable day for me, but my hubby's favorite holiday, so we did it for him!

That night we had planned on watching the Germantown fireworks at Fireman's park for the first time.  We heard though that you can see them from the top of the hill at Kinderberg park.  Since it was such a long hot day, we opted for Kinderberg and not the crowds.  It was a great spot to watch from- we saw fireworks from 6 different towns going off.  It's a great spot to go with little kids too as it's far enough away where the noise doesn't scare them.  As you can see below, Rylie was really into the fireworks.

My 3 Year Old!

It's hard to believe that Rylie is 3 years old.  The years have flown by like weeks!  She continues to amaze us every day.  At three years old, she is my little smarty pants.  She picks up on everything- conversations, what she watches on TV, things mommy and daddy do.  She studies things and is so observant.  She only has to see or hear it one time and it will be repeated.  For example, this morning I asked her is she wanted some milk and she told me, "No, I'm dehydrated, I need some water" (from Doc McStuffins).  She plays very well on her own and has such an imagination.  The conversations that she has with her babies or other inanimate objects such as her blanky, are so funny. She loves to give everyONE and everyTHING check ups with her doctor kit.  She will tell you to take a long deep breath...and another.  She also loves giving everyone haircuts with her hair styling accessories. She doesn't listen to a lot of "kids" music because we just don't play it that often.  She knows all of the usuals- Twinkle Twinkle, Row Row Your Boat, I'm a Little Teapot, The Hokey Pokey, Farmer in the Dell, etc.  But if we are in the car, we are usually listening to Country, so we receive requests for that music far more often.  She has memorized the chorus to several songs- Drink in my hand, Over when it's over (Eric Church), Good Girl (Carrie Underwood), Even if it Breaks Your Heart (Eli Young Band), Red Solo Cup (Toby Keith), 5-1-5-0 (Dierks Bentley) and many more.  She also memorizes books we read to her and has about 5 or so that she reads to us (which is kind of nice sometimes).

She has great facial expressions and often uses her hands when she's making a point.  I love her innocence in that she thinks everyone is her friend...if only the world worked that way.  When we take our walks, she sees a house down the street that 3 girls live in (that we have never met) and says "there's my friend's house".  Or if they're outside, she'll wave and yell "hi friend".  She is such a great big sister.  She loves Reagan so much and gives her lots of hugs and kisses.  If she hears her crying, she runs to give her a paci, rock her car seat or push her swing.  She says things like, "It's ok Reagan, your big sister is coming!"  or "I know baby, I know, mommy will feed you soon" or when she's a little more impatient, "Just a second Reagan, mommy is coming, just a second!"  She has been a great little helper. We are so proud of this little girl.

Of course, she has her moments where she doesn't listen, talks sassy, whines, etc, but we remind ourselves that she is only three.  Her vocabulary amazes me and it's fun to have conversations with her.  We are definitely in the "Why" stage and we love her curiosity.  She gives out plenty of kisses and hugs, which we can't get enough of.  I love laying with her and reading stories at bed time, whereas Daddy tells her stories about "Princess Rylie".  Rylie has very good manners, which she'll tell you herself.  "No, no thank you.  Mommy, I have good manners".  She's a smart cookie, but play time with Daddy is interesting.  He had some little magnets that Rylie started playing with, so he was showing and telling her the difference of positive and negative forces. They were also playing with her Leap Frog cash register and he was quizzing her on the Presidents on each of the coins.  His expectations are a tad high.

She is still a little peanut.  We have her 3 year check up next Friday, but she can still fit into 18-24 month shorts.  Some of the 2T shorts are pretty loose on her yet.  For example, while at Menards with Dan, she was running down and aisle and stopped, yelling to Daddy "My pants fell down!" and sure enough, she was standing there with her shorts around her ankles.  And she likes to re-tell the story: "Remember when my orange pants fell down at save big money at benards?  That was hilarious."

Rylie has been loving her gymnastics class and we'll definitely sign her up for the next one.  We'll start swimming again this Fall too.  One area that we need some work on is potty training.  Rylie is STILL not potty trained.  She could sit in a wet or dirty diaper half the day and doesn't care.  She has been close a couple of times and often tells us when we go out to eat or out shopping (usually at the east covenient places- rather than, say, your own toilet at home).  So we feel she knows, but just chooses not to tell us.  I am so tired of changing her diapers and am getting impatient.  Once we brought Reagan home, I felt like changing a diaper on Rylie was like changing a 5 year old.  My goal was to have her trained by the time she was 3,  but that came and went.  Next week we are heading up North for a week.  I think I'm just going to leave the diapers at home and we're going to figure this out!

Here are some of her three year old pictures.  There are also a few more pictures of my furry baby Reagan.
